JULY VIRTUAL WRITERS WORKSHOP - TUES JULY 16TH, 2024
On Tuesday, July 16th, date, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Christopher Simms, will lead a virtual writing workshop titled "From the Page to the Stage."
Would you like to know the difference between poetry on the page and poetry for the stage? Are you new to spoken word or slam poetry or are you considering taking your poems to open mics and the like to be heard? What makes a good spoken word or slam poem? Nationally known spoken word artist and slam poetry veteran Christopher D. Sims will take a deep, comprehensive look at poems meant for the stage. Also, he will discuss his original spoken word poetry he has performed on the stage to engage listeners and make an impact because of his poetry's subject matter. Poets new to spoken word or slam poetry are welcome, as well as veterans of the craft who are evolving as writers of poetry.
This workshop is open to writers/poet/performers of all skill levels and is a fun way to find inspiration in performance poetry. Christopher D. Sims has used memorized poetry to win slam poetry competitions and to use spoken word poetry as a means of addressing social justice issues. A master at writing spoken word poetry, he has techniques and tools he uses regularly to compose powerful and memorable spoken word poetry. A student of the Black Arts Movement, his spoken word poetry has been inspired by poets such as Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Saul Williams and others who are the spoken word poetry tradition and poetic style. Christopher has performed all over the country and in Toronto, Ontario, Canada sharing stages with various spoken word celebrities and seasoned spoken word artists and poets.
