Holy Hike: St. John in the Wilderness
August 13th
Mount Pisgah
Meet at Trailhead at 10am

On Tuesday, August 13, Cynthia Easterling will lead a Holy Hike to the summit of Mount Pisgah. A viewing platform offers 360-degree views of the Pisgah National Forest. This 2.4-mile out-and-back trail is rated moderate (not easy) with an elevation gain of 702 feet.

When looking at the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains, many of us orient our view by locating this 5721 foot triangular peak with the tallest broadcast tower east of the Mississippi. Used primarily by WLOS, the analog tower is scheduled to be replaced by digital towers in other locations, so this is a great chance to enjoy an up-close look at what has been a WNC icon since Channel 13 introduced TV to the area in 1954.

Mount Pisgah parking lot is located about 37 miles from St. John in the Wilderness at Mile Marker 407.6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Drive time is estimated at one hour but may be longer due to slow moving vehicles using the Parkway. Plan to meet at the upper parking lot near the trailhead at 10:00am. Those wishing to convoy from the church should plan to be at the Parish Hall parking lot no later than 8:50am. Please plan to pack a lunch and plenty of water. Dogs are allowed but must remain on leash.
