5th Annual Art in Bloom
Think of it as ‘art with an expiration date.’
The 5th Annual Art in Bloom presented by The Gallery at Flat Rock is an artful pairing of colorful, fresh blooms with sculpture and canvases to create a novel experience visitors to the show. It’s a visual conversation that’s amplified through the inherent transience of the exhibit.
And perhaps most importantly (to us at least), it is one of our favorite Flat Rock events every year. It really is a must-see exhibition.
Suzanne Camarata, owner of The Gallery at Flat Rock, was uncertain how a show during the pandemic might be received but was gratified at the response on day one of the two day showing. “It’s excellent,” she said. “I’m just so pleased we could do something like this during a pandemic and people would feel comfortable coming to the Gallery. This show in particular really brightens a lot of lives.”
Floral Designer, Roberta Smith, enjoys the challenge of creating an arrangement that compliments and highlights the art with which it is paired. And sometimes the final product is a surprise even to the designer. “My final design is totally different from my original concept when I left my home on Friday morning to come to the Gallery. When I saw the actual setting for the art, I got a different vision for the design. But it worked and I loved it!”
The element of surprise is something that makes the show unique according to Suzanne. “The show is popular because of the element of surprise. You may already enjoy a piece of art, but this show allows the pieces to be enhanced by another beautiful medium. Also, the fact that the show is so temporal. You only can enjoy the designs for a very short period of time so that makes the experience of seeing the art even more special.”
Today (Sunday, Sept 27) is the last day of the show, and The Gallery will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.
